Beverly A.
King Miller Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of Elementary Science Education in the College of Education at Prairie View A&M University, Texas, USA. She received her PhD in Multicultural Teacher and Childhood Education from the University of New Mexico. Her scholarly work focuses on the persistence of Afro Caribbean’s in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) training and careers.
Her research includes qualitative studies related to the inclusion of underrepresented people of African descent and Latinx heritage to STEM.
Dr. Miller has instituted after school and Saturday programs for underserved communities in the United States, Central America and Africa. She started Ventaja (advantage) Educational Services, a not for profit, to provide STEM/English camps promoting science education, (ii) international educational and STEM access and, (iii) teacher education and training.

Chancellor’s Academy of Teacher Educators (CATE) Award
The Chancellor’s Academy for Teacher Educators is an initiative that honors full-time faculty members who have significant impact on the preparation of teachers in the field of education. Since its inception in 2011, many recipients have been inducted into the Academy Induction of recipients occurs each year during the council’s annual meeting.
Dr Beverly King Miller was inducted into the Chancellor’s Academy for Teacher Educators February 22, 2024 for her work improving teacher education and sharing best practices to support student success, her innovative measures; providing a critical space for knowledge sharing, examining challenges, and fortifying the strengths that have resulted from the formation of a strong Community of Practice.

Education and Work in New Mexico
Dr. Beverly King Miller received a PhD in 2013 from the University of New Mexico. Her degree was in Multicultural Teacher and Childhood Education with a concentration in Science Education.
The last teaching appointment was at the Albuquerque Institute for Mathematics and Science (AIMS) where she was the department chair and was instrumental in building and developing the science program for this new Charter school. Under her leadership, the school developed a strong science research and technical writing program.
AIMS students have won numerous awards at Science Research Expo competitions. Under her leadership, the first group of AIMS students competed in the Intel/ISEF competition in Atlanta in 2008. In 2013, AIMS was ranked number 42 of the top 100 national High schools. It held the honor of being a National Blue Ribbon School.

Additionally, Dr. Beverly King Miller developed numerous community and business partnerships to support our science program. She partnered with the University of New Mexico Bosque Education Management Program to bring a monthly field experience program to AIMS. This program allowed students to participate in field experience projects along the Rio Grande River of New Mexico. Monthly monitoring included the collection of water samples, surface arthropods, ground water levels and precipitation data At the end of each year students participated in peer presentations on their research data that was collected at the varying points of the river.
Dr. Beverly King Miller set up an internship for students with Sandia National Labs where student were hired to work on research project along top scientists at the Materials science laboratories. Over the years numerous students were able to work through college. One was hired full time after he graduated from the university.
Dr. Beverly King Miller went back to AIMS in March 2018 to work as a mid/high school science teacher She continued to implement a rigorous science fair program through a social justice model that included teaching students the process and allowing the time and resources at school to complete their projects. Students would later compete in the regional, state and national competition. One grade six students who is working in the groups would later receive a monetary award from an engineering firm in the community.
STEM Education and Literacy Camp in South Africa- 2013-2014
Project and Service to the underserved in South Africa.
Conveying STEM Education to underserved Black and Coloured students in South Africa. Noting, the lack of proper resources and teachers to teach (STEM), Dr. Beverly quickly began volunteering to bridge the gap to fill the dire need for high level skills in the sciences. After moving to South Africa, using her own funds and resources, she was later employed as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Johannesburg. In the meantime, she set up a Saturday school for K- 12 grade students where she targeted the Matric Exam skills. She also tutored 3-5 grade students in math two days per week.
Dr Beverly King Miller also went in Queenstown in South Africa where she visited programs and discussed basic biological research and poultry science on bird production, processing and funding. This was part of a sustainable system to promote healthy chickens to feed the poor.
Dr Beverly King Miller taught at Jeppestown, population 14,800, with about 90% black 4 % white and 6% other mix.
Jeppestown is a suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa. Majority of the population spoke isiZulu, then English, IsiXhosa, Afrikaans etc.
With a determination to eradicate illiteracy and introduce science education, math and technology and with heightened sense of purpose, Dr Beverly taught English and Sciences, transforming the lives of many.
In 2013, during the death the late President, Nelson Mandela, Dr. Beverly placed a candle in memory of Nelson Mandela, Soweto, Johannesburg and met American Journalist and News Anchor of NBC nightly news and Dateline, NBC., Mr. Lester Holt.

Benjamin Disraeli said, “The greatest good you can do for another is not just share your riches, but reveal to him his own” Aesop stated that” No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted” and Hubert Humphrey concluded: “The moral test of a society is how that society treats those who are in the dawn of life — the children; those who are in the twilight of life — the elderly; and those who are in the shadow of life — the sick, the needy, and the handicapped.
Dr. Beverly King Miller exhibits all categories of the perfect profile of volunteerism, cultural social, gender, professional and human capital, because it comes from the heart. Not counting the small donations and work for local nursing homes and showing goodwill to all men and women, or supported by a great team of well wishes and volunteers, she is passionate, works in teams, stays humble and has a fearless approach.
